Nice poster, put together by Blitz Mag I think. nice pic of Kim checking, she is a great little fighter, watched her in NZ last year. Mr Judd Reid would have little competition in this neck of the woods I should imagine. Is that a pic of a male vs female? sounds like many countries competing this year, should be a cracker. My pick for one of the light heavy finalists, John Nyugen. OSU! RTR

I would have entered this tournament, however the last 'all valley championships' where i lost to daniel have taken a heavy toll on my mental state. I just couldn't bring myself to put my fans through that again.

Osu Yoda,

Actually, no, that weigh in venue has had to change due to the fact the Y has been sold and the honbu has had to move.

Stay tuned, Shihan gary is going to email me tomorrow with details of the new weigh in venue with times and all the other details, which of course i will post here for you

Hmmm... $15. Maybe even $20.00.

But $30.00 I thought was a bit rich. $90.00 for me and my olds to get in and watch!

Hi guys, just had the results from the Vics, awesome. Entry fees are a problem, in NZ the fighters have to pay $50 to enter a tourny and then the family have to pay usually $20 a head to watch, I always wonder why the fighters have to pay $50 to get smashed up, as they are the draw card to start with. Maybe its so that they perform as best they can. They have usually spent $400-$500 in airfares then have accomodation and meals etc, My sons last trip to Aust cost $800 plus, for 2 mins on the mat, as his first opponent was the top fighter and eventual tournament winner. Shodan against 4th kyu. thems the breaks, he will be back competing at the Mckay tourny in Sept? another $800 I imagine, you have to be keen. OSU! RTR

Keep in mind i have no idea of the facts, so maybe someone can enlighten us, but perhaps the fightrs have to pay for insurance or something like that?

So, $15-20 seems more reasonable, what about a family ticket?

Luckily for Daniel, Miyagi paid his entry fee, and even stole a black belt for him to wear.
My understanding is that within many Kyokushin dojo, that the fighters entry fees for tournaments are often paid for by the dojo or in some circumstances the branch, including airfares and accomodation.
Entry fees are generally determined by the dojo or branch organising the venue and change depending on the location and size of the venue.
Fighters entry fees are usually calculated by insurance costs, trophy costs and administration costs. Believe or not there is a lot of behind the scenes organising that goes into running a tournament, it isn't a case of lets worry about it on the day.
In most circumstances any profit that a dojo or branch makes from a tournament will go back into the dojo or branch benefiting all members.
Sensei used to make us polish his trophies to earn pocket money for entry fees,

Thanks for the heads up Johnny boy. I hadnt given much thought to the costs behind running such an event, I think its great if a Dojo can pay for its fighters, but dont know of any that do, in NZ anyway. The boys from the Union organisation in NZ pay for every thing themselves, the trip to the South Island Nationals and one to Australia each year set them back about $1600 plus loss of wages if youve run out of holiday pay, but the chance to fight and meet new friends is worth it, getting a bit tough with two trips to Australia this year , but wouldnt miss it for the world. Cant believe the improvement in Daniel since 2004 where I saw him fight as a blue belt fight in a ring event punishment day Aust vs NZ, my mate as a 6th kyu fought vicious Phil Jacobsen, great tourny. In our dojo, usually ( i say usually because it is not a given!) , The dojo / social club pays for half of the expenses incurred in karate activities ( tournamnets, camps etc)

What that means is, we have to all get behind the fundraising efforts. if its selling chocolates or having a BBQ or selling raffle tickets, we all have to put in an effort. Because it might be YOU or your kids that have to fly to NZ for a tournament one day.
